Tailgate - Tailgate Lock - Tailgate Latch - Tailgate Replacement - Trunk Lid
Tailgate Replacement Options
Every sports fan in the world that has been to a live event at a stadium knows exactly what a tailgate is. Tailgate is the word given to the back gate of a truck or of an SUV. These parts aren't especially prone to damage unless a rear-end collision is of significant speed or force. A truck's bumper usually protects much of the tailgate; however, if the tailgate is bent or damaged in any way, it's always better to replace than to attempt to repair. For dints in particular, they're hard to pull effectively from the tailgate.
Another big problem that most tailgates have is trouble with the latch or their lock features. Unfortunately, just the simple act of opening and slamming your tailgate over and over again can cause some latches to become virtually useless. If you use your truck for work, hauling loads of furniture, dirt, tree trimmings, etc, this can be especially dangerous to other drivers on the road and any merchandise you have in the truck bed. A lot of people employ the use of elastic cords, but with such a force, they're wholly unreliable. Like with the dinted-up tailgate, replacement is the best option for a gate with a broken latch or lock.
Thankfully, this repair is extremely easy. When you open the tailgate, the first things you'll notice are two cords on the side. This supports the weight of the tailgate, keeping it from lying directly on the bumper, which wouldn't support it and cause it to hyperextend and break the hinge. The cords are held in place with standard bolts, and can be easily removed. Fully unfolded, you will see the necessary bolts to take out of the hinge mechanism. After this, the tailgate lifts right out and the new one can be placed in.
