Saturn Car/Truck Body PartsGeneral Motors knew that the Japanese small, compact market needed an American competitor; as a result, the GM Corporation designed a line of vehicles known as Saturn. In 1990, the car market was flooded with quality made Japanese cars that were affordable and dependable. Still General Motors knew that most of the American public wanted and needed an American made car that offered those same features. Holding to their "Made in the USA" philosophy, the headquartering of the manufacturing facility, Saturn; was located in the heart of America, Spring Hill Tennessee. Departing from traditional GM platforms, which often meant the same body style on various models and brands, GM decided to produce the Saturn on an exclusive Z-body platform. The first 3 models of Saturn's were one single car; however, they did feature varying body styles. The Saturn SL, the Saturn SC, and the Saturn SW were introduced to the American public in 1990 and 1991. The overall side body panels of these first Saturn's were plastic and dent-resistant. GM marketed the car to those American's who wanted a hassle free American made automobile that offered fuel efficiency, dependability, and price; much like their Japanese competitors. In recent years, the Saturn has been criticized for making the same automobile from years past. In fact, not many updates at all have been applied to the Saturn automobile. Even the Ion, one of Saturn's newest models, has been criticized for being a low quality and bottom of the line automobile. General Motors plans to change America's mind over the next few years, and to help get the ball rolling, the GM Corporation has spent quiet a lot of money updating and redesigning the Ion. As well, GM has added new products to the Saturn line-up; including the Sky Roadster, Aura sedan, a redesigned Vue, sharing the Opal platform. General Motors will now market the Saturn line as a high end family vehicle, just under the low end luxury automobile line. With the new changes and the introduction of two new sub lines, the Redline, a performance oriented vehicle, and the Greenline, an environmentally friendly vehicle, the hopes are that Saturn will regain a good and handsome market share.
